Registration Details :

Join us for another Hang 10 Volleyball at Gold Park in beautiful Hillsborough, NC on July 30th. This is a REVERSE COED 2s GRASS VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT.  Tell your friends, invite them to this event and help spread the word everyone you know!

So far this year we have had 184 players join us.  We hope to continue to grow each tournament.  We have promised huge payouts and we have delivered.  So far this season we have paid out over $3,500 in cash and prizes across 3 divisions.

We know that this date conflicts with Columbia Crown.  However, we will run the tournament with 5 teams or 55 teams.  We just want to play and hope you do too!  If you are going to sign up early for any tournament – make it this one!!!

IMPORTANT CHANGES:

Online registration will END at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Friday, July 29th.  If you want to sign up after 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 29th you must e-mail us at hang10volleyball@gmail.com or message us on our page Hang 10 Volleyball, and we will let you know if we have room.  Any late registrations will be subject to space in a particular division and teams may be required to play in a division other than the one requested.  In other words, sign up early if you want to be guaranteed a spot.  This will be implemented moving forward and the online registration may begin to end on Thursday for future tournaments.

For the July tournament, we will be adopting the experimental let service rule that the AVP is set to adopt after the Olympics.  This is essentially the same as tennis service: if the serve hits the net in any way and lands in bounds (i.e., in the court or on the line), the server will be permitted to re-serve.  If on the second service the serve again hits the net in any way (even if the re-serve lands in bounds) or is served out, it is a fault and the receiving team is rewarded a point and the ball (i.e., a side out in rally scoring).  Of course, if the serve hits the net and goes out of bounds that is a fault.  We are going to see how this works and solicit player feedback.

Divisions:
Open, AA, A and BB divisions. There must be at least 4 entries for a division to run.  The tournament directors may combine divisions if necessary (however, we will make every effort to split out divisions for playoffs if divisions are combined for numbers reasons).  In addition, the tournament directors reserve the right to move any team to another division for purposes of promoting fair play and/or to make the tournament run more smoothly to even out the numbers in any division.

Entry Fee:
Open: $70 per team.
AA, A and BB: $50 per team.

Prizes:
Open: Cash payouts with the total purse equal to AT LEAST the total registrations received for the Open division. For example, if 10 teams sign up, the total purse for Open will be AT LEAST $700. The more teams that sign up the greater the minimum purse will be, so tell your friends!

AA, A and BB: Combination of cash payouts and prizes. Prizes that you actually want such as new Spalding balls, chairs, Yeti cups, canopies, etc.

After Tournament Parties:
After every tournament we will be having an after tournament player`s party at the Mystery Brewing Public House, which is less than a 5 minute walk from the tournament site. The Public House has a lot of Mystery Brewing Company beer on tap (the best beer in the state) and has a fantastic back patio.

Registration:

Online registration will be done through Volley America at: REGISTER HERE FOR THE JUNE 25TH TOURNAMENT.

Check-In:
Check-in will begin at 8:00am the day of the tournament, with play starting at 9:00am SHARP. If you are not checked in by 8:45am there will be an additional fee of $10 per player not yet checked in, unless you have made prior arrangements with one of the tournament directors.

Dogs:

Yes, you can bring your dog, and there is a dog park right by the field. However, all dogs MUST be on a leash at all times and that leash must have a dog on one end and you or an object on the other end.  The fine people of Hillsborough apparently take this very seriously, so we prefer not to have to talk to the police about this again.

Which Division to Play In:

Open:  This is for very experienced and elite players.  You will often find former college volleyball players in Open.  You can expect high velocity jump serves, hand setting and consistent blocking.  Helmets are encouraged.

AA:  This is for players that have very good knowledge and understanding of doubles volleyball.  Players in AA are comfortable with doubles play and strategy.  You can expect very consistent level of play.  This is the division that consistently hosts the most players in our tournaments.

A:  This is for players who are newer to/still learning doubles volleyball but still have a good understanding of volleyball generally.  Players in A are still learning doubles play and strategy, but exhibit good basic volleyball skills.

BB:  This is for players who are very new to doubles volleyball and volleyball generally.  This division is designed for players who want to make a transition to outdoor doubles play.  This is much more of a relaxed division designed for people to learn to play the outdoor game.

If in doubt, just message us on our page Hang 10 Volleyball or e-mail at hang10volleyball@gmail.com and we can help give you some guidance.

Sandbagging:

Absolutely NO SANDBAGGING. You play at the highest division of either player. For example, a team consisting of an Open player and an A player that team will play Open. This will be strictly enforced. If you want to request to move down to a lower division, message us on our page Hang 10 Volleyball or e-mail us BEFORE SIGNING UP at hang10volleyball@gmail.com and we will consider requests on a case-by-case basis.

Division winners MUST play in the next highest division for subsequent tournaments.  For example, a team winning AA must play in Open the subsequent tournaments.  This applies to a player individually, so even if you play with a person other than you won that division with, you MUST play the next highest division.  It is not fun for anyone for the same team to constantly win the same division all summer long. Get out there and challenge yourself!

If a division winning team or individual goes winless in the next tournament after moving up a division or such team or individual does not make it to playoffs for the next two tournaments, then that team or individual can request to play in the previous division.  Decisions will be made by the tournament director on a case-by-case basis.
